AN ALLROUND SUCCESSFUL MASTERPIECE

"Kari Dällebach" enthralls, amuses and convinces: the first musical of the Thun Lake Festival in Swiss dialect is an all around successful masterpiece. Humor and tragedy alternate in a subtle and dosed way. The rousing music supports shapes and enforces the plot and its alliance with the audience. The scenes flow sensitively into each other, short transitions let the story unfold nicely. Spiced with everything that belongs into a musical: dialogue, dance, soli, duet, mass- and love scenes, comedy, whores, good people, bad people, children, dogs and more. The venture to turn away from Broadway classics, and create original Swiss musicals in dialect, fully succeeded. In “Dällebach Kari” everything merges into one perfect piece and into enjoyment everywhere. With "Dällebach Kari" the Thun Lake Festival has managed an excellent start. A high standard for the future is set."

Thuner Tagblatt, July 16th, 2010

A MASTERSTROKE

"A highlight among the cultural offerings summer 2010:" Kari Dällebach - The Musical” on the Thuner lake. Climax after climax lines up in this tribute to a City-of-Bern-original. Visually you want to get your money’s worth in a musical. In "Dällebach Kari" this is fully guaranteed. A masterstroke has been accomplished. Every sentence, every vocal line, every movement makes sense and assembles to an impressive whole. Once more a musical proves, that it is not a superficial artistic expression, but can show real depth by using elements of entertainment. The high motivation of the creative team in charge of "Dällebach Kari" can be felt at every turn, the musical is a creation for which they gave everything and they were finally able to achieve the high demands they made on themselves."

Bieler Tagblatt, July, 17th, 2010

A SMASH HIT LIKE SWITZERLAND HAS NEVER SEEN BEFORE

"The major musical production in Thun, "Dällebach Kari ", a song and dance spectacle about the city-of-Berne-original, is about to become a “must see-ical”. With the musical "Dällebach Kari", the Thun Festival can book a self-made smash hit like Switzerland has never seen before. The direction fully succeeded, the music is catchy and stays in your head. The cast dances with fire and sings with fervency. The tragical-comical story of the legendary hairdresser from Berne goes to the heart, is stirring and leaves no one cold. A fire burns in the hearts of all those audience members who have already seen "Dällebach Kari" and until the last show a lot of deeply moved people can be added. Precautionary handkerchiefs are handed out at the beginning of each performance."

BernerBär, city magazine, 27 July 2010

IT IS DONE AND IT SUCCEEDED

"And then the musicals started, and it was beautiful. (...) As Annemarie is about to be sold off to Kari’s former best friend, the National Council Aeberli, in a bittersweet wedding, we hear the saddest song of Switzerland, the song of "Simelibärg". An ingenious play on all the heart strings. Christian Struppeck from Germany, who has already designed the musical “Ich war noch niemals in New York" for Udo Jürgens, had dedicated himself to the "Creative Development", Udo-Jürgens-lyricist Wolfgang Hofer wrote the lyrics, and in the end Pascal Dussex and Bern songwriter and veteran performer Tinu Heiniger translated everything into Bern dialect. Thanks to the musical 400 people found a job this summer, more than 60 000 tickets are already sold, in such a monumental, well calculated venture of entertainment, failure is no option at all. And now it is done and it succeeded.”

Berner Zeitung, July 16th, 2010

KARI OF BERN IN BROADWAY FORMAT

"And this “Dällebach Kari” has struck like lightning at opening night. The thunder would then probably have been the long lasting standing ovation, with which all of the about 400 people working on the show were celebrated deservedly for their accomplishment. The first original production of Thuner Seepspiele AG is not only a very coherent story with a lot of local color (...). It is a veritable musical event. "

Zürcher Oberland, July 21st, 2010

WITH HUMOUR AND BITE

"The musical presents itself as funny, touching and amazingly professional. As a result, Broadway flair all around. The cancer-suffering Dällebach does not drown himself in the water after all because of lovesickness, but because "Chräbsli" (Swiss German for “crayfish” as well as “cancer”) ultimately belong in water: dying at the moment of ultimate happiness - this has a far more tragically effect than suicide due to depression. Handkerchiefs are extensively in use. There are also two beautiful, slightly surreal scenes, one taking place in a brothel full of bizarrely dressed whores, the other is a delirium dream sequence with white mouse women. The audience was enthusiastic and gave a standing ovation."

St. Galler Tagblatt, July 17th, 2010

A TRIUMPH OF SWISSNESS

"A triumph of Swissness: from the reddish snow on the mountains behind the lake to the Bernese March on stage, in the musical about Swiss anti-hero Dällebach Kari on the Thun lake stage everything fits together harmoniously and in a very Swiss way. Andreas Gergen directs the love story sensitively and the comedy lighthearted. The turbulent choreography has a good timing. Lighting and costume design add much to the magic of the spectacle, which is presented within two short, uninterrupted hours without any lows."

Der Landbote, July, 21st, 2010

BIG EMOTIONS

"Big emotions in a spectacular scenery. "Dällebach Kari" is on its way to break all previous ticket sale records. Touching scenes, sweeping music and a colorful staging take the audience on an emotional rollercoaster ride."

Züri Rundschau, July 23rd, 2010

BROADWAY FEELING

"Broadway feeling has arrived at Thun lake. The result is impressive; also thanks to the good orchestra, as well as the nearly 100 cast members; principle actor Hanspeter Müller-Drossaart mastered the nearly two-hour stage show with bravura."

Schaffhauser Nachrichten, July 17th, 2010

BROADWAY CHARM

"The hairdresser moves us to tears. The show has Broadway charm and a brilliant leading actor."

Neue Luzerner Zeitung, July 17th, 2010
